the first pair of shoes

Lyla got her first pair of walking shoes today. This is a big deal. The first of many, many, many shoes I am certain she will have in her lifetime. They are pedipeds. Pedipeds are supposed to be really good for new walkers because they are the "next best thing to bare feet". They have a soft leather sole that is shock-absorbing, comfortable, and protective. We like them!

lyla's vocabulary

Here's a video of Lyla saying her favorite three words. She can say, "dada", "lyla", "nana", "mama", "baba", "hi", and "an-man" (this is in reference to her favorite japanese cartoon character, AnPanMan). However, lately she has only been willing to say the first three. At the end of the video you can hear my mom complaining that she doesn't say "baba" and "an-pan man" anymore.

This is Lyla's new pacifier holder. Safe. Fashionable. Fun. I love how it looks like a candy necklace. It makes me want to just bite into it when she's wearing it...but it probably tastes like wood. Isn't the packaging cute, too? I'm a sucker for cool packaging.

First steps

Lyla started taking her first few steps today.  This is the only video footage we have.  It's dark and she only walks a short distance, but you get the idea. She also says "lyla" and "dada". Enjoy .

Update on Derik

Travis went to visit Derik today and I am happy to report that he is doing very well! He texted my a picture of Derik in his hospital gown, laying in bed, and giving a thumbs up with a smile on his face. What a difference from when we saw him just last weekend. The hospital released him today and he is staying with a friend in Redlands on account of not being able to go up the mountain back home due to his lung punctures. It's a minor miracle that he is being released so soon! That just shows the power or prayer. Derik had sooooooo many people praying for his recovery. We appreciate all of your prayers!

Prayers Please!

Trav's best friend from high school, who was also the best man at our wedding, was beaten and stabbed multiple times by a group of guys on Saturday night.  He was walking out of a restaurant after a birthday dinner in the village at Lake Arrowhead with family and got attacked.  He is currently in critical condition, although we are getting good reports on his recovery.  He suffered multiple puncture wounds to his lungs, spleen, and diaphragm.  Please keep Derik in your prayers!

OC Fair

The OC Fair at night.  It is a totally different experience than the San Diego Fair.
