day one: Cody fell out of bed in the middle of the night onto the hardwood floor. I woke up from a dead sleep to a loud thud and then Cody crying hysterically. Praise God that he was fine and didn't even have a bruise anywhere on him. That was the first and last night he slept with me!
day two: Cody peed on me and the living room carpet while I was changing his diaper. I went grocery shopping and Lyla dropped a tray of red velvet cupcakes at stater brothers and ruined them, so I had to buy them all out of guilt. On the bright side, they turned out to taste very good!
day three: the garbage disposal leaked and flooded the under-sink area. I also found day-old doggie diarrhea on the playroom rug and spent 45 minutes cleaning it out. Lyla fell on her head at the playground and screamed...i thought she had a concussion but she was fine. That night as I was falling asleep in bed, I found a spider crawling inside my pajamas!!! I was totally traumatized and slept with the light on the rest of the night.
day four: I managed to get to church early for once (even with a quick drive-thru trip at Starbucks!). I was so proud of myself...and then to my utter horror found that Cody had a complete blow-out diaper that took me forever to clean up. Poop everywhere. I didn't have a change of clothes for him, so he had to wear Lyla's butterfly embroidered jeans at the nursery. He was probably picked on by all the other 1-year-olds. As a result of the diaper fiasco, I ended up walking into church way late. Later, Cody choked on a piece of green apple! He was struggling so much to get it out that he actually vomited from the effort. Of course, I flipped out.
day five: day five was wonderful. I took the day off work and spent the day shopping at the mall with my mom. Gap had a 40% off friends and family pre-sale. Score! Nothing like retail therapy to soothe the soul!
Other than the aforementioned disasters, the kids and I had a pretty productive weekend. I was able to keep the house really clean and I picked up a few good finds for the house at Target. I put up some cute shelves in Lyla's room and bought some cozy new pillows for the couch. On Monday night, my wonderful dad picked up Travis at the San Diego airport for me at midnight so I could get some sleep. I am so happy to have Travis back. We have never been away from eachother for this long before and it was rough. Absence certainly makes the heart grow fonder. This morning Lyla walked into our room rubbing her eyes and saw Trav for the first time. She hugged him tightly and whispered very quietly and sweetly, "Daddy, did you come back from Virginia? I am so happy, I missed you so much." Yup. Heart-melting cuteness.
