pow wow

We braved the 90 degree heat to check out the annual Pechanga pow wow. Pechanga is the Indian reservation that is located in Temecula. My parents thought it would be a fun and educational experience for the kids. There was a lot of drum beating and chanting.

We were surprised to see that some of the "traditional" indian wear looked very contemporary.

We asked Lyla to dance like the Indians, but she just wanted to watch. I think it was too hot.The highlight of the weekend will be on Saturday night when they have a fireworks show. There are a ton of vendors selling Indian goods...t-shirts and bumper stickers that say things like "Proud to be Navajo" and "I'm not Illegal, I'm a Native". We will probably return next year when the kids are bigger and the heat is not such an issue. We love to expose them to interesting events like this.
